EDI Membrane Stack: Continuous Chemical-Free Deionization Technology
The EDI Membrane Stack represents an advanced electrochemical water purification technology that seamlessly integrates electrodialysis (ED) and mixed-bed ion exchange (IX) principles. By applying a direct current (DC) field across alternating cation-selective and anion-selective membranes, it achieves continuous removal of ions from feedwater without chemical regeneration.
Core Working Principle:
Purification occurs within resin-filled chambers. Feedwater – typically pretreated reverse osmosis (RO) permeate – enters dilute chambers packed with mixed-bed ion exchange resins. Under the DC field, cations migrate through cation-exchange membranes toward the cathode, while anions move through anion-exchange membranes toward the anode. Contaminants concentrate in adjacent channels and are flushed to waste. Critically, water molecules dissociate at the resin interface, generating H⁺ and OH⁻ ions that continuously regenerate the resin in-situ, eliminating the need for acid/alkali chemicals.

Operating temperature must be maintained between 5–35°C (25±5°C ideal) to ensure stable ion mobility and minimize membrane stress.
