RO(reverse osmosis) system working principle

The working principle of RO systems is based on the reverse process of osmosis phenomenon. When two solutions of different concentrations are separated by a semipermeable membrane, water molecules will spontaneously pass through the membrane from the low concentration side to the high concentration side until a concentration equilibrium is reached. If enough pressure is applied to the high-concentration side, it can counter the osmotic pressure and force the solute in the high-concentration solution to pass through the membrane in the reverse direction, thereby obtaining pure water on the low-pressure side and a concentrated solution on the high-pressure side.

Application areas of RO systems
RO systems are widely used in many fields, including seawater desalination, brackish water desalination, household water purification, wastewater reuse, etc. In addition, RO technology also performs well in industrial wastewater treatment, which can effectively reduce energy consumption and operating costs, especially in the recovery of heavy metal ions.
