General Description of the E-Cell MK-3 Stack

The E-Cell MK-3 Stack, a component of the E-Cell* electrodeionization product line, is specifically engineered to:

* Leverage electrical current to produce ultrapure water essential for semiconductor manufacturing, power generation, solar panel production, and numerous other heavy industries.

* Achieve top-tier performance, characterized by both the highest standards of product water quality and minimal energy consumption.

* Minimize the need for cleaning, even at higher feed water hardness levels, through the use of counter-current operation.

* Guarantee leak-free operation, backed by a standard 3-year prorated warranty.

* Operate seamlessly and continuously, eliminating the need for caustic or acid regeneration of the ion exchange resin within the stack.

* Eliminate the requirement for brine injection or concentrate recirculation.

Notes:

1. Actual performance may vary based on site conditions. Refer to Winflows Prediction Software to verify expected product water quality and the resistivity, sodium and silica performance guarantees provided at design conditions. Contact us for boron or other guarantees.

2. Inlet pressure is determined by downstream pressure requirements for product and concentrate streams, choice of countercurrent or cocurrent operation, and stack pressure drop.

3. At nominal flow and 25°C. Refer to Winflows Prediction Software to verify design conditions.

4. Refer to Winflows Prediction Software and the E-Cell Stack Operating Manual to verify feedwater specifications at design conditions.

5. TEA (ppm as CaCO3) - Total Exchangeable Anions, this represents the concentration of all anions in the feedwater, including contributions from OH-, CO2 and SiO2. Winflows must be used to confirm that the feedwater TEA is acceptable at the given application operating conditions. Tabulated values are given at minimum flow and maximum temperature.

6. The 1.0 ppm feedwater hardness limit as CaCO3 is for standard countercurrent operation only. Under co-current operation, the allowable feed water hardness is reduced to 0.1 ppm as CaCO3.

7. At rates above nominal flow, the allowable silica limit is reduced. When feed water hardness exceeds 0.5 ppm as CaCO3, the allowable silica limit is reduced to 0.5 ppm.

8. When a silica guarantee requirement exists or a resistivity guarantee requirement is above 10 MOhm-cm, the boron feed level is limited to 0.3 ppm as B, as higher boron levels may affect performance. In the absence of these requirements, the limit is 1.0 ppm boron.

9. Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Equivalent Feed Water: RO provides feed water to the EDI that is essentially free of particulate matter, colloidal materials, and high molecular weight organic matter that could foul the ion exchange media. Because the EDI stack contains packed beds of ion exchange media that cannot be backwashed/fluidized to remove particulate matter, the quality of the RO permeate needs to be specified. Systems with an open system between the RO system (or other source) and the E-Cell (e.g., storage tank, decarbonator) must have a filter installed immediately before the E-Cell to protect the E-Cell from contamination by particulate matter. Generally, a 5µm absolute filter or 1µm nominal filter is acceptable.
