0.6MPa Ion Exchange Water Filter System

Ion exchange water softener cation resin filter plant system demineraliser

We manufacture a full line of ion exchange systems using cation (a negatively charged ion) / anion (a positively charged ion) exchange resins for a wide variety of water treatment applications.

What does ion exchange remove?

  • Hardness removal (water softener)
  • Nitrate removal from water
  • Alkalinity
  • Chloride removal
  • Sulfates
  • Fluorides
  • Organics reduction
  • Silica removal
  • Perchlorate
  • Radium and Uranium removal

All our ion exchange systems incorporate the latest resin technology utilizing the highest quality resins furnished by well-known manufacturers. Our unique Regenerate Distribution System accomplishes complete and uniformed regeneration of the resin. The ion exchange water treatment systems have options of either automatic control panel or through PLC based or digital stager regeneration controls to assure consistency and reliability.

We design and manufactures both standard and specially engineered ion exchange water filter equipment for an array of applications including deionization (separate cation/anion and mixed bed), dealkalizers, nitrate removal from water (NO3), and condensate polishers.

Advantages of Ion exchange water treatment systems:

  • Fast results
  • Short and long-term applications
  • Variety of tank sizes.
  • Allows for quick installations.
  • Requires minimal maintenance

What are ions in water?

Ions are electrically charged molecules, and are formed as pollutants dissolve in water. Natural areas of water have a balance of positively and negatively charged ions. Ions are what determine the TDS and conductivity of the water. The greater presence of ions results in higher TDS and conductivity.

How does ion exchange water treatment work?

Ion exchange water treatment works by removing material from the water through the use of water processes such as water softening systems, and water deionization systems. These systems work by exchanging specific ions for other ions. When it comes to water softeners, magnesium and calcium ions are replaced by sodium ions. As for water deionization systems, the cations are exchanged for hydrogen ions, while the anions are exchanged for hydroxyl ions.

industrial and commercial water softeners treat the water by removing hardness using resin. The resin replaces the hardness in the water with salt which is regenerated periodically. The softened water can then pass through an RO system to remove the salt without the risk of scaling. Softeners can be used in a variety of services including: industrial, municipal, and institutional applications.

Residential/Commercial Water Softening Unit

Mainly used in industry and civil water softening preparation, such as Boiler feed water make-up water, air conditioning system make up water, heat exchanger, power plant, chemical, textile, printing and dyeing, bio-pharmaceutical, Electronic system and water pretreatment.

Principle of operation

Water softener is named sodium cation exchanger, which have Ca2 and Mg2 of raw water exchanged with Na+ of

resin, adsorbing Ca2+, Mg2+ of water, so that the water was softened. The exchange process is:

2RNa + Ca2+ = R2Ca + 2Na+ and 2RNa + Mg2+ = R2Mg + 2Na+

When the water go through the ion exchanger, the Ca+ & Mg+ was replaced by Na+. When the replacement to a certain extent, the resin will be saturated, this time will need use saturated brine for regeneration.

A “Single Tank Water Softener”, is a system with 1 resin tank and 1 brine tank. The resin or mineral tank contains resin beads that remove the hard water minerals. The brine tank stores the salt.

“On-demand” single tank softeners count how many gallons you use. Once you reach capacity, they regenerate in the middle of the night. During regeneration, the system goes into bypass. No soft water is available during this time.

If you hit the limit in the middle of the day, you’d run out of soft water.

To avoid running out of soft water, most systems are sized with 30% additional capacity. You still run the risk of running out of soft water during very heavy water use, but your odds are improved.

“Dual Tank Water Softeners” have “2” resin tanks and 1 brine or salt tank.

Dual tank systems also regenerate on-demand. But they have an immediate advantage. When you hit capacity on 1 tank, the system immediately switches over to the 2nd tank.

No reserve capacity is required. No delayed regeneration in the middle of the night. You maintain even, soft water under all circumstances.

Industrial Water Softening Unit (WSU)

are designed to reduce hardness from water sources that may have negative downstream implications such as scaling of pipework and equipment. The WSU contains resin beads charged with sodium ions. When the hardness ions come in contact with the resin beads the hardness ions are collected and the sodium ions are released, thereby softening the water via ion exchange. The WSU automatically completes a regeneration cycle whereby the filter is backwashed and the resin recharged with sodium ions via the brine regeneration tank.

Water Softening can be used in a range of applications such as potable water, boiler feed water and domestic appliance feed water (washing machines, dishwashers etc). Additional pre or post WSU treatment steps may be added to suit feed or softened water requirements such as iron removal, odour removal, colour removal, hydrocarbon removal, pH correction or sterilisation. WSU are available as skid mounted units or containerised systems.

Industrial Water Softeners

The Industrial Water Softeners were designed to remove hardness before the influent water reached the Industrial Boilers. The Water Softeners were engineered for a flow rate of 300 GPM and a daily volume of at least 300,000 gallons per day. There are three Structural 48” x 72 fiberglass pressure vessels. The skid mounted system runs in parallel and regenerates based on volume of water used. Each vessel consists of a top mount valve and a 3” Stainless Steel Meter. The system displays flow rate and gallons remaining. There is also detailed history data. Each vessel has sample ports to monitor changes in influent and monitoring the effluent of the water softeners. The system contains three inch isolation butterfly valves along with 2” Fleck flow controls. The piping is uPVC or 304 Welded Stainless Steel with a 4 inch header and a 3 inch inlet and outlet to each pressure vessel.
